But I'm always entertained--or annoyed--or enraged and saddened--by how people will twist every random thing that happens to them into a message/warning from the universe. The message I'd take away would be "the universe is indifferent to you," but my friends and family seem to think it's, "You need to start wearing purple on Thursdays, and then you'll get a boyfriend, win the Lottery, have your cancer go into remission,” etc.
I also hate this because it's a go-to distancing response for some when confronted with bad news. "I just got fired from my job." "Well, everything happens for a reason." Fuck you, just say it sucks, don't try to position it as a didactic exercise.
