This is a pretty good summary of this phenomenon, with some statistics.

Your second link does not address "evidence" at all. The following was pulled from the PDF and explains the "highlights" of the report:
Quote:HIGHLIGHTS From 1995 to 2010, the estimated annual rate of female rape or sexual assault victimizations declined 58%, from 5.0 victimizations per 1,000 females age 12 or older to 2.1 per 1,000.
In 2005-10, females who were age 34 or younger, who lived in lower income households, and who lived in rural areas experienced some of the highest rates of sexual violence.
In 2005-10, 78% of sexual violence involved an off ender who was a family member, intimate partner, friend, or acquaintance.
In 2005-10, the off ender was armed with a gun, knife, or other weapon in 11% of rape or sexual assault victimizations.
The percentage of rape or sexual assault victimizations reported to police increased to a high of 59% in 2003 before declining to 32% in 2009 and 2010.
The percentage of females who were injured during a rape or sexual assault and received some type of treatment for their injuries increased from 26% in 1994-98 to 35% in 2005-10.
In 2005-10, about 80% of female rape or sexual assault victims treated for injuries received care in a hospital, doctor’s offi ce, or emergency room, compared to 65% in 1994-98.
In 2005-10, about 1 in 4 (23%) rape or sexual assault victims received help or advice from a victim service agency
As for the first link: There's a misleading issue with the article. All along, you have stated the claim that there is "often no evidence" with sexual assault. But what you are not taking into consideration is that according to the story in that link, two thirds of rapes and sexual assaults go on unreported. That's 66%. A pretty high number, which again, hardly backs up your claim. It is literally impossible to collect evidence for something that the victim doesn't report. For anyone wishing to quote mine this in the future, I am not saying that victims are wrong for not reporting. But for the purposes of Mermaids claim, I'm looking at the links provided, in order to have this discussion.
People don't report for a variety of reasons, of which there is a chart in your second link. Nowhere does it state in that chart that the reason for not reporting was due to a lack of evidence.
I am not trying to argue with you either, Mermaid. I just think it's important to not dismiss Capn when he refutes your claims because you didn't provide anything for us to look at to determine whether or not your claim was a fact.
I'm a rape survivor as well as a survivor from child sexual assault. I know how sensitive a subject this is. But I was like the 66% in that I didn't report. If I had, perhaps they might have found evidence. But to assume that they wouldn't find any is just not realistic.
