So why use the pronoun "he"? Gravity is also an omnipresent force, one which does control the tides, yet no-one considers it to be anything other than what it is (and you indicate that you sort of understand this). The nuclear forces exist in all things, holding everything together. We'd be in a right mess if these and other similar forces were suddenly to decide to stop working for some reason, though we'd never be aware of it - not for long, anyway. Compare that to the traditionally-accepted definition of "God", which has never been shown to have any measurable effect on anything, anywhere, ever.
Also: We know what the Universe is, we can examine it and measure it and we already have a perfectly good word for it, one which doesn't carry anything like as much unnecessary and controversial baggage as the word you wish to impose in its stead. However, let's go with your definition for the moment and accept that your pet god is the Universe. What place, then, for the Jesus you believe loves us? Was he the Universe in human form, or the son of the Universe?
I know, I'm spoiling the fantasy. I apologise.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
