1. Intelligence is not limited to human beings, and so there is nothing to explain here.
2. Firstly, the universe isn't perfectly suited to life, in fact, if anything at all can be said, it is that this universe, and specifically this planet, are killing machines. Secondly, if this planet were incapable of supporting life you wouldn't be here to ask the question would you? (mull that around and see if you can realize why the question you asked is fundamentally meaningless, especially in light of question 1)

We are (im)perfectly suited to (some parts of) this planet. Which is a tiny fraction of the overall universe, which is by and large absolutely inhospitable to life, let alone human life. You approached the issue in a fashion that we like to call ass-backwards.
