That's what some superstitious ignorant scribes said a few thousand years ago. The Bible reads like heroic fiction because that's exactly what it is. It is no more believable than the "bibles" of other religions. The Bible is nothing more than a book of mythology, reflecting the ignorance, fears, superstitions and prejudices of the times in which it was written.
You said God never said it. Why should I listen to you?
You say scribes, who are fallible humans, did it, so why should I listen to you, who is also a fallible human? I should listen to God.
You only think you should listen to god because you are a particularly fallible human being (by courtesy). You are only projecting your worthless self onto someone else’s fiction to deceive yourself, annoy your fellow men, while making yourself more worthless. You will do better to listen to a better sort of human being who can tell you whether there is a god to listen to. These sort of superior human beings can be readily identified by their telling you there is no god to listen to.
So be less worthless and listen to them.
