You are not supposed to. That is a critical part of the scam. If he understands it and you do not, clearly he must be operating at a "higher level" and you are not. Thus a guru insinuates his own superiority.

Why are people applauding for him ?

Because they are gullible. Just look at the Sai Baba fiasco. Or Sylvia Browne, Or Muktananda, or John Edward, Or...Well the list goes on. They all have one thing in common. They are all charlatans. It is a global thing, common to all of humanity. Only regional cultural differences make it seem distinct, but it really isn't.
