X's, t's, crosses too (the top bit is great for attaching signage - assuming you don't just nail it to their chest or face, or wtvs), and also bare posts. The last one was real handy when you hung them up by the feet, pulled their arms out, and staked them to the ground. Twice the fun with the same amount of wood. Some parts of the empire were severely deforested.
I think crucifixion crosses in the shape of an "X" are more aesthetically pleasing than the ones in the shape of a "T".
Besides, if one drills a hole in the centre of a cross in the shape of an "X" and then attaches an axle, through the hole, to a vertical post, the cross can be spun around giving all sorts of additional effects. Much better than ya standard crucifixion, don'tcha think?
