As far as the show goes, there are two different "Radars." The evolution began when Hunnicutt and Potter arrived; in earlier episodes, you'd catch Radar smoking cigars, drinking whiskey, and going on dates. Not so as his character evolved. He became a grape ni hi-drinking virgin, innocent and childlike. By the time he left the show, this aspect of his character had become a little cloying.
I wouldn't say I hate the character or anything, but he was a bit more realistic earlier in the show.
