It's very interesting you will tolerate the most immoral and lying fool ever to occupy the White House because he gets you a few things you want. The ends justify the means. Utilitarianism. [...] Sure. Let's elect a rapist for pres, ... why ? Because he's good for the economy. Great moral stance that from a bunch of fake religionists who *claim* they hold a moral high ground. Bunch of fucking fakery.

And given that Trump once claimed so many losses that one year, two cents of every business dollar lost in the country was lost by him, I don't hold out much hope on his improving our economy. And really, the thing is, the more I look at it, his appeal doesn't even really lie in his getting people a few things they want; the most substantial thing he gives them is our rage, and because we rage, he wins, and so do they. And the depressing thing is, that seems to be more than enough for many people. Honestly, I get the impression that, at this point, many conservatives don't seem to even have much in the way of conventional morality. It's all about winning, the old-fashioned Master Morality, damn any sort of real moral high ground, and that's why Trump ended up winning the nomination, and the presidency; because he takes that subtext and turns it into text, and it’s text his base loves and the useful idiots like Drich just accept.

Honestly, it seems that conservatives seem fond of calling any public display of morality from anyone to their left "virtue signalling," and the more I see it, the more convinced that it's less out of a desire to call out moral peacockery (though I do think that's a thing to look out for, because there are Tartuffes everywhere), but because they legitimately can't fathom why anyone would actually express compassion towards people worse off than themselves other than to score political points.
