So they don't really give an accurate picture then. Time value of money basically dictates that a dollar in 1980 was much better than in 2016 (per this website 2.61 times more valuable based on inflation). So Reagan's $1.86tn would translate to $4.859tn.
Still not the same level as Obama, but considering that a big part of Obama's problem stem from Reagan's debt making and voodoo economics (albeit eagerly followed by his successors to the White House), it's not looking good for aul Ronnie Ray-Gun.
