How did Obama take the national debt to $22.8 trillion? Because, looking at the National Debt Clock, it's currently at $22,426,3XX,XXX,XXX (Xs are for digits that have changed in the time it takes for me to write this post). It hasn't even reached $22.8 trillion NOW. And the Treasury claims it's closer to $22.0 trillion. Your figure of $22.8 trillion is clearly bunk since it hasn't reached that point yet even in the intervening 2 1/2 years since Obama went out of office, let alone the close to 2 years since Obama's last budget expired.
And no, Trump has not in any way lessened the debt. We only reached the $22 trillion point earlier this year. And the last (fiscal) year the national debt ever decreased was 1956-7.
