At a more fundamental level, the dominant religion in a society is credited with that same society’s basic human decency while belief inspired abrogations if the same are whitewashed and Othered. On top of this framework of undue deference the same beliefs appropriate institutional benevolence as somehow being the sole product of their ideologies and again painting institutional incompetence and malice as the result of cultural invasion.
When the shape of the individual and the collective is defined in this way, it becomes second nature to credit the work of our fellow human beings as a divine gift while simultaneously insisting that the contended work of the gods, when negatively valued, is somehow the fault of mans interference.
