The lack of integrity on one side should not hurt it more than the same lack of integrity on the other side.
What makes democracy theoretically worthwhile at all is its practice are said to lead to more enlightened determination and assessment of policy options from the point of view of the entire political system. In recent practice American democracy has become the rule of the more effective thrower of shit for the narrow interest of those who are least scrupulous about truth and about the welfare of others in the system..
Right now American democracy is not looking good at all next to dictatorships in some other countries.
