You are doing everything wrong. My devout catholic parents managed to raise four outright atheist children despite catholic schooling and all the rest of the indoctrination crap. Hell, as a kid I was even in the Legion of Mary.
But it never led to familial strife, because every one of us respected the boundaries of the other's personal beliefs or lack thereof. If one volunteered for such a conversation, then fair game, but always civil. Otherwise, not on the map as a discussion topic.
An atheist has no reason to proselytise. Because they do not have a creed to proselytise. If you think you have one then you are doing it wrong.
