there is no singular over site it is referred to a series of checks and balances. each having some power over the others is what keeps one branch of government from taking complete control.
https://www.usa.gov/branches-of-government
In this case if the president is accused of a crime it is on the DOJ table to investigate (remember the muller investigation with the whole russia collusion nonsense and they investigated for 2 years and found nothing??? Yeah that was the DOJ)
justice.gov/storage/report.pdf
So the same DOJ checks out this story and instead of being prompted by the house they check him out and found no crimes have been committed.
That's what makes this whole thing insane...
For the last 2 years it was all about the authority of the DOJ and what they were supposed to find. They have researched trump with a fine tooth comb. and found nothing.
SO NOW the house says we do not care what the attonery General and the whole Department of Justice says is legal or not... We are charging the president with what we deem as a high crime, and we are not allowing anyone to challenge or cross examine anything we find.
But the DOJ is not a branch of government. It is a department within the Executive branch (Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?). And the DOJ's investigation (Mueller) found ten instances in which Trump may have obstructed justice. You missed that bit?
It isn't necessary for Trump to commit a crime for an impeachment inquiry to proceed.
The House hasn't charged Trump with anything. This is an investigation. Had the DOJ done it's job, the House wouldn't have to.
How fucking clueless are you? Republicans are in the hearings. They are allowed to question the witnesses. Each Republican member has the same about of time as each Democratic member to ask questions. How is this 'not allowing'?
