We use the term tribalism almost exclusively as an insult, but if we could channel that very strong and very effective human urge towards more inclusive ends - a tribe of a bigger tent - then we might see how beneficial tribalism has always been as a tool.
The things we already take to be bad about tribalism don't actually have to be leveraged for what they currently are. The fact that they're so good at producing good outcomes for the tribe at the cost of bad outcomes for the other already demonstrates their ability and value in the abstract. It's hard to see why would evolve out of it. It's advantageous in the only way that matters to biology.
Tribalism is a hammer that we're pounding the wrong nails with (though the nails we've been pounding with it thusfar haven't always been the worst). That's the underlying conjecture of so much sci-fi, lol. If something happened or we learned something that made us, as human beings, feel like there was a "human tribe" - then we might galavant all over creation shittifying the lives of other species....but it would work pretty well for us. Humanity, as a whole, doing what tribes do. Offloading the cost of their desires and necessities and connecting at the level of a shared struggle between themselves and some Other. The Other being aliens, or the stark realization of the vastness of space and our complete and utter loneliness in it..or even whatever portion of humanity commits themselves to destructive ends for that larger tribe.
My take on tribalism, anyway.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world.
