What? There's never been a post-racial America, Atlass.
And I'm a baffled as to why you would consider an extraordinarily damaged, self-hating Black individual such as Michael Jackson or his goofy-assed, pandering "Black or White" kumbaya as proof that there was at some point. Jackson simply duped himself into believing that achieving tremendous wealth and validation from White folks meant he had "transcended" race. It happens to folks who aren't particularly sharp.
Understand that receiving White adoration at such phenomenal levels tends to be extremely conditional. Generally, coddling White folks by not speaking too much truth, licking their collective asses and/or validating their sense of superiority in some way or another is required for the duration in order for them to praise and gush over Black folks endlessly like that. Lol...Apparently, Michael lost sight of the game and thought he could just "happen" to fit the profile of a diddler of White kids and no one would start side-eyeing him. But, I digress.
So here's the deal: Trump is in the White House because though not all, more than enough white Americans WANT him there in hopes that he will seal the breaches made in the last few decades and hold the line for White Supremacy.
He won and will likely win again because Whites have been bequeathed greater electoral power enabled by that very system.
Even of the poorest and most vulnerable among them would rather accept unemployment and layoffs, suffer foreclosure, illness and mounting medical bills, and watch their kids starve than to entertain any semblance of equality that extends beyond tokenism. That's how critical the notion of racial superiority is to their psyche.
There you have it.
