You're not immediately falling on your face shouting "Praise Jebus!" after reading it.
That's the problem with these "former atheists" they believe the schtick imparted to them by con men that they don't realise it's only for intra community consumption.

To be fair, I’m still a member of the Catholic Church (you have to be excommunicated to lose your membership) and I don’t think my atheism is in serious doubt.

Excommunication actually doesn't kick you out of the church, it just removes all access to sacrements and communion with clergy until you repent your "sin". You're still catlick, just not one in good standing.
