That is not the original implication of the Mary/Joseph story.
The idea of a hero being born from a mother while avoiding standard sex is not original to Christianity. The older mythology of Buddha had him being born out of the side of Queen Maya, and she was told by the divine world that she would give birth to a boy who would bring wisdom to the world.
