Yes, but is it a big problem? I believe guns are quite popular there. When death by firearm gets in the top 10, then it can be seen as big deal.
There's lots of things in life which aren't necessary for living. Alcohol, smokes, fast food, etc. The "unnecessary" deaths directly related to those "lifestyle related" things make guns deaths insignificant.
This of course also applies to most of the western world. You guys have just got one little extra phenomena to deal with. I'm just taking all emotion out of it and looking at the big picture.
