That seems like a stretch.  Our children can't do for themselves, nor can our pets or our livestock - we still imagine that there's some point to their living.  I say we, but you could always be the aberrant nutball.

if no child ever has been pulled from life support, if no child ever has been admitted to long term psych care, if no child ever was aborted for having some potential disfigurement or mental disorder you might have a point. but all of these things happen even today. maybe you are simply the eternal optimist or maybe those things don't count in your mind because soeceity allows you to not count them as children.
