And if you want to falsely equate workers rights to "socialism" then you'd also have to falsely accuse Teddy Roosevelt of "socialism". Teddy was a Republican and a fervent advocate of workers rights.
have you read lincolons letters? most of you have no idea who the man was nor his plan for slaves. he did not like black people and moved to abolish slavery to one end, that was to win the war. here is a letter lincolon wanted published in the NY tribune. he has in another letter written to the president of the confederate states/jefferson davis. stating he had 100 days to sit with him at the negotiating table or he would release all slaves. the south was winning the war at the time and told Abraham to pound sand. here are his thoughts on slavery: http://housedivided.dickinson.edu/sites/...t-22-1862/
