This is what creates theocracies and dictatorships throughout human history. But this attitude here in America scares the shit out of me. We cannot tolerate this message growing and gaining popularity.

He was using hyperbole. He has voted for public money for higher education and sponsored bills for prisoners to have access to college programs as well as statewide master plan for public universities in Tennessee. He was reacting to a woman that was yelling at him. He is not calling for the abolishment of higher education. This is one reason we are so divided. That whatever we say will be taken out of context and used against us. Find real things you don't like about him to push back on.

He's simply saying that higher education is what causes people to become liberals. So...the less you know, the more likely you are to be a conservative.
I looked him up. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. I wonder if he'll ask his university to rescind it.

Do these people ever wonder why exactly more intelligent people are typically less conservative, or religious? Not all of them, but enough that it's noticeable?
Education should be one of the highest priorities that a country has. There is no downside to the general population being smarter, except that they're harder to control through fearmongering.

BULLSHIT, that wasn't simply hyperbole. That is the same toxic and dangerous vilification Trump has used as red meat to rile up conservatives.
You cannot take one example and solely focus on that. Talk like that adds up, and when it adds up in politics, bad things follow.
"Liberal breeding ground" is meant as a derogatory slur in an attempt to vilify dissent. He is using the same vile tactics Trump is using.
"Liberal" is not an evil term, and we are not some separate species. "Liberal" means "open", "more", "bigger tent".
"Liberal" is the opposite of China, the opposite of North Korea, the opposite of Stalin., the opposite of Hitler, the opposite of Cuba.
And I don't give a shit if he has voted for funding for higher education. If he didn't mean it, he shouldn't have said it.
Of course on average the more educated someone is the more likely they are to be liberal. But "liberal breeding ground" he is saying like that is a bad thing, and it is not a bad thing.
