So as Japan, punishing all the inhabitants of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the sins of the imperial army must be thought of considering your argument. 

Nope not punishment stopping the war by getting Japan to surrender and stopping there aggression and their own pursuit of the bomb and doing so   without losing potentially millions of people . Then  rebuilding the country afterward . 

What about burning Dresden to crisp in WW2 ? 

Dresden was sending Hitler a signal his aggression would have consequences 

what about invading Vietnam ?

Vietnam was the attempt by the north to seize the south and most bombing campaigns were on valid targets
