This thread reminds me of an incident that occurred when I attended the 1985 American Atheist Convention in Denver, CO. Everyone who walked out of the hotel wearing a convention badge was followed down the street by evangelicals passing out religious tracts. One black atheist, who I later had lunch with, was approached by a middle-aged female proselytizer who told him, "Jesus will make you free." After listening to her spiel for a few minutes he shouted, "Make me free? Are you out of your f**cking mind? What has religion EVER done for the black man?" At that point, she walked away without another word.
