OK, I'll play the game, lets assume scripture is right, just for the sake of argument:
He lied, if I have scripture right the 'snake' is actually the one that told the truth, but it doesn't matter. A much horrendus crime happened when god judges adam and eve for eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Its like punishing a child that can't understand its actions for touching the hot stove. That is immoral and criminal in my view, god should be tried for negligent care. But you won't see that will you G-C?
And why did god put that tree in there anyway?
The translation is somewhat inaccurate. In the hebrew it reads something like "dying, you will die". What God was saying is that they would no longer be immortal and start to die. There is also the fact that they died spiritually on that day. God didn't lie about anything.
He put the tree there so they would have a choice whether to obey Him or not. If you read the verse when Eve is talking to Satan, it is clear that she understands it is wrong and what the punishment is. She was tempted by these three things:
The lust of the flesh (the tree was good for food)
The lust of the eyes (the tree was a delight to the eyes)
The pride of life (the fruit would make her wise)
She knew it was wrong and she did it anyway. Adam knew it was wrong but listened to his wife instead of God. They broke the fellowship and brought death into the world. They reaped what they sowed.
Thanks lucent for answering that one, been out of town, my aunt passed away. We celebrated her life and the eternal life she will spend with our God and savior.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
