In America and the west, nobody has the right to murder anyone over merely getting offended, it doesn't matter what the topic is.

Any atheist reading this now, has a story, or many, where we are called evil, where we get accused of loving Stalin and Hitler, we get told we are going to burn in hell. So if it were legal for us to murder people for offending us, there would be a ton of dead theists.
Civility in the west isn't based on submission to anyone, but common law. We don't have to like what others say, but nobody has dominance over the other, and nobody has the right to murder someone merely because they got offended.
I bold the part that "really makes you or any other person in the west from killing": the law's grip is strong and it can reach the person who commit crime.
Unlike the Middle East, where law is very very corrupt, and under total control of totalitarian dictators.
It's not civility either. Let a government falls in the west; and you shall see chaos.
Actually, we're seeing a part of that chaos in America under Trump.
