The ridiculous story of the temptation of Jesus

  So, firstly, hello Redstar.  Smile

Now a clarifying question.

The X-tian deity (The 'Father' bit... and maybe the 'Spirit' bit as well) are attributed with being 'Omnipotent' (You can add/expand on having the other two 'Omni's' as well if you want)

The question is. Did the supposed 'Jesus' aspect have access to even a part of said 'Omni' power?

If Jesus did then Satan can't tempt him. The whole idea is just silly. Why temp some one who, even if they don't know everything  they are definitely positively with out a doubt certain (The whole 'Aspect of god' thing) that there is that 'Omni' thing out there that they are a part of.

Now, if Jesus could be tempted. (For the whole tale to make any sense) then does that mean that Jesus didn't have that 'Divine connection?

 Things to think upon.

 Cheers.

Hi Peebo-Thuhlu,

Sorry for the delay replying to you, I didn't manage to visit again until now!

Re your query above:

Satan is attacking the human part of Jesus Christ, Who is True God and True Man.  He has a Divine nature and a human nature.

Omnipotence is an aspect of His Divine nature, not His human nature.  You are right it would be folly to attempt to corrupt the Divine, but (as we know) human nature is fragile and prone to failing.

In the narrative of His life, we do read of Christ at times displaying human emotion which hints at the fragility of human nature:

He loses his temper when He encounters the merchants etc  using a temple as a market place, indeed He is even violent towards them as He drove them out.

He is described as marvelling at the strength of the faith of the Roman Centurion He encounters, when the Centurion seeks Him out to ask for help.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, we read of His frustration with his companions and also His fear at the death He knows will soon befall Him.

These things show His human nature was, of course, just like yours or mine - and it was this Satan was attacking, just as he does with everyones human nature.

Cheers.
