It’s called ‘discredit the witness.’ You’re perfectly correct that it doesn’t have anything to do with Floyd’s death. If the defense can get the clerk to admit that underage people are allowed it that section of the shop, he can establish in the jurors’ minds that the witness is unreliable, so ANY witness could be unreliable.
It’s a very common courtroom tactic and is frequently used when the prosecution have a very strong case, such as video of a cop kneeling on someone’s neck until (and after) that someone died.
