I tried to catch up years ago by reading 3 books I highly recommend.  

The Motion Paradox by Joseph Mazur

Warped Passages by Lisa Randall

Three Roads to Quantum Gravity by Lee Smolin

It was great summer reading, and I almost kinda but still don't get it.
