The Roads to Quantum Gravity by Lee Smolin

It was great summer reading, and I almost kinda but still don't get it.

When it comes to the detailed complexity of most math and science, I get lost. But when it comes to general concepts, one can drive a car without knowing how to build one. One does not have to be able to build a car from scratch to understand the general concept of how a combustion engine works. One can learn how to drive a car without knowing how to build one from scratch.

I think with evolution Dawkins described change over time in a very understandable lapersons example. He didn't like the "mixing paint" metaphor most people use. He described evolution more like a deck of cards beeing shuffled. You have the back of the deck, which is majority DNA all life shares, like the uniform back of a deck of Hoyle playing cards. The the slight changes of the face of each card, that shows the change between the King of hearts and the Qeen of Hearts and the Jack of Hearts and the shuffling over time.
