Where on the foot?
Gout tends to be in the big toe, at least for the first few attacks. The toe will be hot and very sensitive to any touch. Exquisitely painful. I speak from experience.
If the pain is farther back into the arch, it is less likely to be gout and more likely to be arthritis. It can also be muscular at that point.
Ankle joints are much more likely to be arthritis or some sort of injury. Gout can show up there, but is less likely to at first.
