Does the pain flare if anything at all touches it (even something as light as a bedsheet)?
Around the big toe area, and yes.
Just woke up, and the foot feels so much better. There's some minor pain when I touch my foot, but not as much as before. When I first woke up earlier today, the pain level was at a nine or ten. After some more rest, it's at a one or two.
Definitely sounds like gout. Allupurinol is the main med, although colchicine can also be used.
Cut back on proteins. Their digestion increases the amount of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid can crystalize in the joints, producing the pain of gout.
