What I'm reminded of is the case with Tommy Robinson. He managed to incite violence during TWO different trials involving Muslim groomers (one in Canterbury, one in Leeds) and almost caused both trials to collapse.
To be fair, Waters is far less strident than Tommy-boy and is only encouraging protesters to get more confrontational (something I suspect would have happened regardless of whether or not she actually suggested it). But still, the best way I can describe this is a spectacular lapse of judgment. And the fact that powerful people on my side of the political divide are doing shit like this legit makes me weep.
Quote:"I am not worried that they're going to continue to distort what I say. This is who they are and this is how they act. And I'm not going to be bullied by them," she said.https://people.com/politics/maxine-water...-comments/
She explained: "I talk about confronting the justice system, confronting the policing that's going on, I'm talking about speaking up. I'm talking about legislation. I'm talking about elected officials doing what needs to be done to control their budgets and to pass legislation."
Waters added that that backlash to what she said "does not deter me from speaking truth to power."
"I am not intimidated," she said. "I am not afraid, and I do what needs to be done."
