Judges are generally the ones who impose sentences in criminal trials anyway, within guidelines. Chauvin could still walk away with no time in prison at all.
And his maximum sentence would be 75 years, not 40.

The 40 was what the cable channels were reporting for the top charge.I was only repeating what I saw on the news. And there is absolutely no chance he will walk. That is a "technical" thing. Chauvin's lawyer will file an appeal as standard procedure. But to let him walk would be insane even if a "technical" possibility.
