There is room for debate on how much the disproportionate and somewhat unprofessional response of a botched take-down outweighed the risk of a large man demonstrably on drugs with a history of armed violence against a pregnant woman.

There isn't much of a debate. His actions were excessive and not just unprofessional they were criminally negligent, And comparing a group of armed police officers to one unarmed woman (who there is no evidence was pregnant) simply doesn't work.

So say you, others would disagree. I am not here to debate for them, merely stating they would debate. 
Also I think that a willingness to physically abuse a pregnant woman when you outnumber her six to one demonstrates at the very least a willingness to do very violent and unpleasant things.
Whether you like it or not that is a part of his history and would have been a factor in the cops minds. Dismiss that when debating someone who cares at your peril.
