My son is Alex but not short for Alexander...had he been a daughter, he'd have been Alex too.

My oldest ribs me because her name was the number one name in the year she was born.  I try to remind her that we didn't have the Internet to track naming trends.  When I had her in 1977, I didn't know of another Jennifer...then suddenly they were everywhere.

Kind of like the first name on the boy list - ‘Liam’ used to be a nickname for ‘William’.
