I didn't have a word for the sort of finish that I'm seeing on some vehicles now. There is a middling brown and a gray, but also also a blue. It isn't matte (to me) and it certainly isn't flat like primer. It reminds me of the kind of color/sheen I saw on '30s and '40s vehicles, or, in retrospect, the chalky finish that VWs ended up with if they didn't get careful attention. We're used to seeing "mica" finish, which replaced "metallic" finish, decades ago, and a clear coat that is smooth as a moth's nose. Mica is way better than the aluminum flake that was put into paint in the '60s and '70s and beyond, because that oxidized and was a complete pain in the ass to maintain because of that.
