Come on man. Having a couple beers isn't dereliction of one's duty.
I remember when I used to work at a liquor store, the manager would (occasionally) crack open a beer. And we'd both have a cold one... even though we weren't supposed to. The store was slow, and there wasn't anything else to do.
I took my job very seriously. If something needed done, I'd do it. But I had zero problem with sitting back and drinking one of the sample beers the vendors left us when there was nothing else to do.
