In 1973 Richard Nixon committed unlawful acts of abuse of power. At that time we had enough patriotism among Republicans that, once the details and facts of what he had done became public, his support all but vanished. That was for an act that was somewhat secretive and convoluted and took months to be fully revealed. Trump, OTOH, was in full public view of all of his un-American and unlawful behavior and yet we have only a small handful of Republicans who will even admit anything significant occurred on 1/6. It's clear the GOP has lost it's soul and is little better than the old Soviet Politburo. If what Americans want is political parties that are determined to win at all costs, then the current state of affairs should be satisfying. The Democrats, far from being a spotless party, will doubtless adopt similar tactics and the American citizens will be subject to civil conflict on the order with Julius Caesar and Pompey.
If I had been one of the cops charged with keeping watch over security of the capitol on 1/6, I don't know what I would do. I believe it would seem as if our republic was crumbling and the current spate of lawmakers denying anything happened would likely be very distressful for me. It certainly wouldn't inspire me to continue to serve as an officer of the law.
Now that's some dark shit that I hadn't considered.

Basically accusing them of lying. I think that would be a bitter pill.
Plus I wouldn't be too surprised if people like OLB's orange fuhrer and his brownshirts are putting pressure on them. Late night telephone calls, letters in the post, bullets with their names on them, that kind of stuff.

Why is it so?
