He was.  Helped build the base at Buxton that's since been decommissioned.  He was a SeaBee.  That's where he met mom and where I was born.  His Naval service helped pay for vet school.

We stand the rail.

Appreciate that. ManyMost of the men on my mother's side of the family were either Navy or Coast Guard and a few were private boat captains after their time in service. There are, in the family tree - a couple branches back-some who worked on cargo ships and some were deep sea fisherman. Some had their hands in all of the above.
