Wouldn't that suggest that religions of gods don't actually provide those things, then, if people who don't follow them -rightly or wrongly- can still assert those values? It seems self demonstratingly true that these beliefs we have about value need not and often do not arise out of beliefs about a god.
One prominent advocate of religions of nature goes so far as to suggest that religions of gods are the borrowers here - the divine as a narrative device for describing the world as we see it or wish it to be. That values derived from all of this real stuff have been superstitiously and mistakenly attributed to ghosts for any number of purposes.
