Not all "reports" have the same weight. This sounds like pure speculation. It talks about work with other viruses, not the one that causes COVID-19.
It is perfectly permissible to read a paper or report and say "The evidence is weak. I'll wait until something more substantial comes up before having an opinion on that idea".
Otherwise, every scientist would jump on horse de-wormer as a cure-all, just because someone somewhere thought it might help.
