Yeah, the notion of people not acting consistently with atheism is always one of the strangest things we get. It's pretty easy, all you have to do is not believe in gods..which, as an atheist..you don't..and you're acting consistently with atheism. It's hard to interpret it as anything more than the complete inability of some faithful person to accept that there are people who don't believe in gods.
The argument that it's an issue of suppression strongly suggests that atheists do, in fact, live consistently with atheism...regardless of whether or not there really is a god- for example. If you're suppressing something to the extent that you don't believe it, then you're already satisfying the consistency condition to a statement of belief.
