Kinda like assuming football players "lack peace" just because every time you see them publicly, they are bashing into people. I come here for debate. But that doesn't reflect my attitude towards my religious friends.
But (about "no God allowed" thing) I assumed ronedee meant "secular" forums where religion is considered a divisive topic... so the rules are "no mention of religion." After all, it seems rather impossible to talk about atheism without mentioning God or gods. Perhaps ronedee can clear that up?
I actually meant, no "preaching", if not in passing, but certainly in practice....and yes, some forums prohibit any mention of "God", unless it's in lower case format. The "rules" are pretty all-encompassing on the net. So, no one should be surprised with just about anything as a rule. Pardon the pun.
And as far as the "peace" question? "love" aka "kindness", would also be another scarce thing around these parts. I don't believe I've ever witnessed it here? Not once! Even among atheists?
Just observations. Not a complaint. I'm used to the schtick here. Although, it would be nice to see a little kindness. But, that would be imitating Christ? Not allowed.
I seriously doubt any forum exists that has a rule about uppercase or lowercase "gods." I use both upper and lowercase forms of the word (as they relate to different god-concepts). Nobody has ever even mentioned it to me here (or anywhere else)... let alone enforced some kind of rule concerning capitalization. That sounds like some bullshit story you concocted because you need to feel "persecuted" when the fact is, atheists simply disagree with you. But if what you describe is the case in some other atheist forums, those people are idiots.
In college, my logic professor (staunch atheist, faculty leader in the Student Secular Society) once told me to capitalize God when addressing Christians and other monotheists. "Show them that you're charitable, he said. Show them that you're logical argument is what deserves attention and you'll concede whatever meaningless capitalization conventions we've adopted because of their century's-long rule over society."
That stuck with me. This guy had written two books advocating the atheist's position. He debated William Lane Craig... twice. He even showed us the video one day in class. It was awesome. So here you have a guy... staunch atheist, as I mentioned, going out of his way to tell me (an eager atheistic student) to observe theists' silly capitalization conventions. That flies directly in the face of your thesis... because, believe it or not, most of us are way more fair-minded than you assert.
Lemmie tell you about some of the crap I've seen go down on Christian forums. (No wait... let's not... because that's a waste of time because it says nothing about the truth or falsity of God's existence.)
