Denying a person's existence? What the heck? Pretty sure Dave Chappelle did not think his trans friend was a figment of his imagination. Pretty sure he knew she was a human being and not Frankenstein's monster. This is the type of rhetoric that makes a lot of people not take the trans side seriously, sadly.

Ok, but let's stop this "you are denying I exist" crap. Everyone knows trans people are not holograms. Let's go back to your post. "Treating their identity like an illness." Sure, treating what someone is going through like an illness may not be the nicest thing, but it doesn't necessarily mean they hate you. Gender dysphoria is not a good thing. It is a negative. It is a condition that can make you like a zillion times more likely to kill yourself. It is not nice when someone refuses to call you what you want to be called though, of course. I don't like that. It is not nice at all when they treat you like a freak, obviously, and screw those people that do that to the trans community or bully them or assault them in person or spit on them or murder them. Screw those people.

To me, trans is a reality and I really do think they have a brain that is more like that of the opposite sex, so I don't just think it's an identity. I think it's reality, period. Many people though, like Dave Chappelle, think of gender and sex as the same thing, which is probably also what most of us here were taught as kids. Dave doesn't know any better. He's not being a bad person. He's an undereducated person when it comes to sex and gender and trans, just like much of the population is who hasn't spent dozens of hours looking into this subject like you and I have. Why not try to educate rather than try to get his special taken down, like GLAAD and others are doing? Even as an LGBTQ person, this makes me say "fuck GLAAD", so what are straight people going to be thinking? The gay organization is making themselves the villain, and they certainly have earned that title now.
