Of course, a lot of that black LGBT media representation is comparatively recent. When you were coming of age and a lot of the groundwork for gay rights was being laid, you could probably find more LGBT characters who looked somewhat like you than your black boyfriend, right, Kit? Back then, it was probably just RuPaul, the cop from Six Feet Under, and the one member of the cast of Rent who I can’t remember passing the Plinkett Test. Maybe James Baldwin if he was well-read enough.
