For alot of people, the ahah moment comes far before they act on it..if ever. There was a far more likely future where I just stuffed it and kept doing what I was doing until I retired from doing it - then, as the family joke runs, I could fuck off to california and start a vineyard like every other silly retiree with ridiculous dreams.
Likewise, generations of gay men would marry women and have kids and die lonely and unfulfilled, or, if they were lucky, retire to some gay community far far away.
-but you're skeptical, whatever that's supposed to mean. I assume you heard it in the context of something you already put a negative value on, and wonder why anyone would ask for clarification if they would then refuse that clarification. I get it, some garbage person used it in a way that rubbed you wrong about a thing that seems silly - but I suppose that just goes right back to the beginning, doesn't it, with the inherent silliness of some peoples truths as apprehended by others?
Maybe some people are silly..that's their authentic self? They have silly dreams and silly desires and only silly things will make them happy. Things you're skeptical about. Does that change anything about them...? You see it in terms of competing truth claims and their establishment, but it's not even remotely that thing..at all. No ones truth is in competition with any other, such that if your truth were...well..true..someone else's can't be...or vv. Nothing about a person desperately needing to do some particular job...or being gay...is an argument between yourself and them. It's just people trying to figure out and communicate who and what they are. If, for whatever reason, it's so bad you can't stand to hear it...stop watching oprah? Cuz she aint gonna stop, she's living her truth.
