You could have described any of your/their (the hypotheticals you listed) statements as an 'aha moment', another catch phrase that appears to have fallen into disuse.
We'll have to disagree. I'll continue to be more skeptical when people use my truth or authentic self in conversation.

For alot of people, the ahah moment comes far before they act on it..if ever. There was a far more likely future where I just stuffed it and kept doing what I was doing until I retired from doing it - then, as the family joke runs, I could fuck off to california and start a vineyard like every other silly retiree with ridiculous dreams.
Likewise, generations of gay men would marry women and have kids and die lonely and unfulfilled, or, if they were lucky, retire to some gay community far far away.
-but you're skeptical, whatever that's supposed to mean. I assume you heard it in the context of something you already put a negative value on, and wonder why anyone would ask for clarification if they would then refuse that clarification. I get it, some garbage person used it in a way that rubbed you wrong about a thing that seems silly - but I suppose that just goes right back to the beginning, doesn't it, with the inherent silliness of some peoples truths as apprehended by others?
Maybe some people are silly..that's their authentic self? They have silly dreams and silly desires and only silly things will make them happy. Things you're skeptical about. Does that change anything about them...? You see it in terms of competing truth claims and their establishment, but it's not even remotely that thing..at all. No ones truth is in competition with any other, such that if your truth were...well..true..someone else's can't be...or vv. Nothing about a person desperately needing to do some particular job...or being gay...is an argument between yourself and them. It's just people trying to figure out and communicate who and what they are. If, for whatever reason, it's so bad you can't stand to hear it...stop watching oprah? Cuz she aint gonna stop, she's living her truth.

Intentionally ignore the aha moment point? It was a fad.
Would you have found it important to tell us your 'my truth' without this thread?
Don't think we're hearing about my truth because people want extra attention, then look here: https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/my-truth-quotes
For me the statement takes a back seat to the motivation for the statement.

Yup, thats what it's all about. How a guy wakes up wanting penis but intentionally ignores it, cuz wanting penis is a fad. No other reason.
I babble about farming on the boards pretty often - but I explained what it was...because you asked. Now I see that you didn't want to know what it was, you've already decided it's about being an attention whore - that negatively valued thing. IDK bud, maybe it is for some people..still not what the term refers to.
But hey, you've gotta live your truth - and if hearing about other peoples truths gives you a certain kind of feels and it compels you to make a thread about those attention whores..
....well, that's your truth.

OK, without quotes, I'm puzzled about who is replying to whom.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I enjoy hearing about what other people do and how they live and like when you tell us about what your up to. But if you slap a pop culture attention label on it, I get to skeptically question your motive, anyone's motive.
Not my truth, my reaction to something that's not necessary.

What if your/their truth conflicts with mine? Or facts? Or science?
Do people use My Truth to give lend some extra credence to their opinions, beliefs, experiences or views of reality? If they are how does it come close to truth, especially in light of objective vs subjective truth. truth objective.
Maybe My Truth is the other side of the Fake News coin.
(about time I got off my ass and made a thread)
Glad you made a thread, brew. Interesting question.
I personally don't think people can arbitrarily decide the truth according to their own experience. I mean, that's obviously biased and obviously prejudiced.
But at the same time, some people use the term "my truth" in an acceptable manner. Say someone who has been the victim of human trafficking and forced prostitution for 15 years of her life. (I'm thinking of a latina activist to whom this happened, but I can't remember her name.) Anyway, if this woman says "my truth" we would do well to listen. Her unique perspective can tell us something about the world with which we aren't familiar. Maybe how brutal and apathetic it can be.
But if someone is using "my truth" as a way of circumventing the truth, as is common with internet loudmouths in debates, then we needn't take them seriously. Not unless they can demonstrate why we should.
So I guess my answer is: "my truth" has its time and place.
