I think we do have to decide between castle doctrine ideologies that lead to arguments for gun ownership as self defense, and no knock warrants. If we choose castle doctrine, we're telling cops that if they execute a no knock warrant they themselves can be executed like any random black kid snooping around a mailbox...and if we say nah, we're gonna go with no knock warrants, the implication there is that your gun ownership is likely to get you killed by the authorities.
